Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam met with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi at her residence in Yangon this afternoon.

During the hour-long meeting, Minister Shanmugam and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi exchanged views on recent developments in Myanmar and the challenges facing the country going forward. They discussed the importance of all parties working together for national reconciliation and Myanmar's continued progress.

Minister Shanmugam paid a courtesy call on President U Thein Sein in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday. During the meeting, which lasted for an hour, both sides reaffirmed the warm and long-standing ties between Singapore and Myanmar. President Thein Sein briefed Minister Shanmugam on his development priorities, and expressed his government's appreciation for Singapore's technical assistance and post-Cyclone Nargis humanitarian assistance to Myanmar. Minister Shanmugam also affirmed Singapore's readiness to share its developmental experiences with Myanmar.

During his visit to Nay Pyi Taw, Minister Shanmugam also called on Upper House and Union Parliament Speaker U Khin Aung Myint, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin, Union Attorney General Dr Tun Shin, and Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) Secretary-General U Htay Oo.

Minister Shanmugam will return to Singapore this afternoon.
