Singapore hosted the 16th Singapore-Kagoshima Conference on 17 January 2012. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Community Development, Youth and Sports Mr Sam Tan led the Singapore delegation, while the Japanese delegation was led by Governor of Kagoshima Prefecture His Excellency Yuichiro Ito.
A biennial event, the Singapore-Kagoshima Conference aims to strengthen and deepen cooperation between Singapore and Kagoshima Prefecture. The Conference covered a wide range of topics, including trade, tourism, arts and culture, sports and youth.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Conference.
