MFA Press Statement: Introductory Visit of Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam to the United States of America, 1 - 8 February 2012

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam will be in Washington DC for an introductory visit to the United States of America from 1 to 8 February 2012.

 

During the visit, Minister Shanmugam will meet with his counterparts US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and US Attorney General Eric Holder. Minister Shanmugam will also meet several key members of the US Congress, senior Administration officials, prominent American strategic thinkers and members of the media. In addition, Minister Shanmugam will meet the Singaporean community in the Washington DC area at a Chinese New Year Reception hosted by the Singapore Embassy.

In conjunction with his visit, Minister Shanmugam will deliver the opening keynote speech entitled "New Directions: Singapore Politics and Foreign Policy" at the Singapore Conference organised by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). CSIS is a leading bipartisan, non-profit public policy institution headquartered in Washington DC. Minister, Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Second Minister for Trade and Industry S Iswaran, Minister for Education Heng Swee Keat, and senior officials from various Ministries and agencies will also be delivering speeches at the CSIS Singapore Conference.

Minister Shanmugam will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
