In response to media queries on the Taiwanese Presidential Elections on 14 January 2012, the MFA Spokesman said:
"We welcome the successful conclusion of Taiwan's Presidential Election on 14 January 2012 and congratulate Dr Ma Ying-jeou on his re-election to a second term. Singapore and Taiwan enjoy a close and friendly relationship which goes back many years. We will continue to strengthen this relationship based on our "One China" policy.
Over the past few years, both sides of the Taiwan Strait have strived to set aside their differences and promote cooperation. These efforts have contributed to regional peace and stability, which is welcomed by the entire region. We wish all the parties success in working towards greater peace and prosperity, and securing the well-being of the future generations."
