Singapore and Ukraine established diplomatic relations on 31 March 1992. To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the event, President Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law Mr K Shanmugam exchanged congratulatory messages with Ukraine's President Mr Viktor Yanukovych and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Kostyantyn Gryshchenko respectively. On behalf of the people of the Republic of Singapore, I extend our warmest congratulations on the 20th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between our countries.
The friendly relations between Singapore and Ukraine have broadened and deepened significantly over the past two decades. Our countries share many common interests, and there is potential for greater bilateral cooperation. Your Excellency’s State Visit to Singapore in March 2012 was a historic milestone in our bilateral relationship, and has catalysed many new areas of cooperation. I am confident that under Your Excellency’s leadership, our bilateral relations will continue to grow from strength to strength.
I would also like to express my appreciation for your invitation to visit Ukraine, and look forward to doing so at a time of mutual convenience.
