The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia Mr Bob Carr, who is in Singapore for an official visit, called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today. During their meeting, Minister Carr and PM Lee reaffirmed the strength of bilateral relations between Singapore and Australia, noting in particular the growing presence of Australian businesses in Singapore. They also noted that given the largely congruent strategic views, both countries cooperated well on the bilateral and multilateral fronts. In this regard, Minister Carr took the opportunity to thank PM Lee for Singapore’s support for Australia’s candidature for a seat on the United Nations Security Council in 2013-2014. PM Lee and Minister Carr also had an exchange of views on developments in Southeast Asia and international security issues.
