MFA Press Statement: Visit of His Highness The Aga Khan to Singapore, 30 March – 2 April 2012

His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam of the Shia Ismaili community, will make a working visit to Singapore from 30 March to 2 April 2012. The Aga Khan is the Founder and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network, an umbrella organisation of agencies covering various development issues which has operations in different regions including Asia.

The Aga Khan is visiting Singapore after inaugurating the opening of the “Treasures of the Aga Khan Museum: Architecture in Islamic Arts” exhibition at the Islamic Arts Museum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This exhibition, which will also be held at the Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore from 19 July – 28 October 2012, will explore the diverse artistic traditions of Islamic architecture through a showcase of artefacts and artwork from the Aga Khan Museum collection.

While in Singapore, the Aga Khan will call on President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and will be hosted to lunch by Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Dr Yaacob Ibrahim.

The Aga Khan last visited Singapore in 2008 as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his accession.
