The Minister of Defence of France Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian, who is in Singapore to attend the 11th International Institute for Strategic Studies Asia Security Summit (Shangri-la Dialogue 2012), separately called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana, and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law Mr K Shanmugam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 2 June 2012. This is Mr Le Drian’s first visit to Singapore since his appointment as Defence Minister of the French Republic.

During the meetings, our leaders and Mr Le Drian reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between Singapore and France, and highlighted defence cooperation as a key pillar of the bilateral relationship. PM Lee and Minister Shanmugam also exchanged views with Mr Le Drian on strategic developments in Europe and the Asia-Pacific.

Mr Le Drian also met Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs Mr Teo Chee Hean as well as Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen in the morning.
