His Excellency Dr Mohamed Morsi

President-Elect

Arab Republic of Egypt

Dear Mr President-Elect,

Please accept my warmest congratulations on your election as President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Your Excellency has assumed office at an important juncture and I would like to wish Your Excellency every success as you steer Egypt through its historic transition and maintain Egypt’s vital role in promoting peace and stability in the region.

Singapore and Egypt enjoy strong and longstanding bilateral relations.  We have good cooperation at international fora such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement.  At the people-to-people level, many Muslim Singaporeans have studied in Al-Azhar University and returned to serve Singapore as community and religious leaders.  As your government takes steps to stabilise the Egyptian economy, Singapore stands ready to share relevant aspects of our developmental experience and to broaden our technical assistance.

I look forward to working closely with Your Excellency to strengthen bilateral ties during your presidency.

Yours Sincerely,

TONY TAN KENG YAM
