MFA Press Statement: Visit of Speaker of Indonesia's House of Representatives His Excellency Dr Marzuki Alie

          The Speaker of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR) and President of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), Dr Marzuki Alie, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong this afternoon.  Dr Marzuki was accompanied by DPR members Mr Hayono Isman and Mr Sidarto Danusubroto.   Prime Minister Lee and Dr Marzuki had a general discussion on bilateral relations and welcomed the strengthening of ties at all levels.

         Dr Marzuki and his delegation also called on, and were hosted to lunch by, Speaker of Parliament Michael Palmer.  Mr Palmer was accompanied by Members of Parliament Dr Intan Azura Mokhtar, Ms Sylvia Lim, and Mr Desmond Lee.  The two Speakers welcomed more bilateral parliamentary exchanges. They also discussed the agenda for the upcoming 33rd AIPA General Assembly in Lombok, Indonesia in September 2012, as well as ways to enhance cooperation between AIPA and ASEAN, and between AIPA and other parliamentary organizations.

            Earlier in the day, Dr Marzuki and delegation were hosted to tea by Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs Lui Tuck Yew.  Minister Lui and Dr Marzuki had an exchange of views on bilateral relations, including ways to strengthen ties.
