MFA Press Statement: Appointments of Singapore's Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and Singapore's Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

The Government has appointed Mr Jai S Sohan as Singapore’s next Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and Mr Ng Teck Hean as Singapore’s next Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.  Mr Ng and Mr Sohan will assume duty on 13 August 2012 and 20 August 2012 respectively.

Mr Sohan has held several key appointments in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since he joined the Singapore Foreign Service in June 1985.  He served as Director of ASEAN Directorate from early November 2010 to May 2012 and as Director of Consular Directorate from mid-2007 to End December 2010.  He also served as Singapore’s Consul-General in San Francisco (2003 - mid-2007), Deputy Chief of Mission in Kuala Lumpur (2000 – 2003) and Deputy Chief of Mission in Jakarta (1995 – 1998).

Mr Sohan obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree and Bachelor of Social Science Honours (Class II Upper) degree from the National University of Singapore in 1984 and 1985 respectively.

Mr Sohan was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2001, the Long Service Medal in 2008 and the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2011.  Mr Sohan is married to Mdm Daphne Tan and they have two children.

Mr Ng has held several key appointments in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since he joined the Singapore Foreign Service in July 1992.  He served as Director of Southeast Asia Directorate from August 2010 to March 2012 and Director of Americas Directorate from July 2007 to August 2010.  He also served as Deputy High Commissioner in Kuala Lumpur from June 2003 to December 2006.  He served as Special Assistant to Minister for Foreign Affairs in 2002.

Mr Ng obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours II Upper) from the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, in 1991, and a Master of International Public Policy (with Distinction) from Johns Hopkins University, USA, in 2001. 

Mr Ng was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2003.   He is married to Mdm Lynn Mok and they have two children.
