Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship: Visit of Dr Peter R. Orszag, Vice-Chairman of Corporate and Investment Banking, Citigroup, 12 to 15 September 2012

Dr. Peter R. Orszag, Vice Chairman of Corporate and Investment Banking at Citigroup, will visit Singapore as the 36th Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellow (LKYEF) from 12 to 15 September 2012. 

Dr. Orszag previously served as the Director of the Office of Management and Budget in the Obama Administration, a Cabinet-level position, from January 2009 until July 2010.  Prior to joining the Obama Administration, Dr. Orszag was the Director of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).  Under his leadership, the agency significantly expanded its focus on areas such as health care and climate change.  

During his visit, Dr. Orszag will call on PM Lee Hsien Loong, Second Minister for Trade and Industry S Iswaran, and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu.  Dr. Orszag will also be hosted to lunch by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam.  Dr. Orszag will also meet with the senior management of Temasek Holdings and the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation.  Mr Eddie Teo, Chairman of the LKYEF, will host a welcome dinner for Dr. Orszag. 

As part of his visit, Dr. Orszag will deliver a lecture at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy on 13 September 2012 titled, ‘US Fiscal Challenges and Opportunities’.  He will also participate in a roundtable discussion with officials from the Monetary Authority of Singapore on range of topics from the state of the US economy to developments in the international financial industry.

Established in 1991, the LKYEF programme invites outstanding individuals for high-level exchange visits to Singapore.  The Fellows are chosen on the basis of their proven track records or extraordinary potential to contribute to the development of their nations, as well as promote international understanding and goodwill.
