MFA Press Statement: Official Visit to Singapore by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Cape Verde His Excellency José Maria Pereira Neves, 21-24 September 2012

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Cape Verde, His Excellency José Maria Pereira Neves will make an official visit to Singapore, 21 to 24 September 2012.

Here on his first visit, Prime Minister Neves will be formally welcomed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at a ceremony at the Istana on 21 September. Prime Minister Neves will call on President Tony Tan, followed by a meeting with Prime Minister Lee, who will host lunch in honour of the Prime Minister and his delegation.

In conjunction with the visit, Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew and Minister of Infrastructure and Maritime Economy of Cape Verde Sara Maria Duarte Lopes will ink an Air Services Agreement that allows unlimited passenger and cargo services between and beyond the two countries. To lay the framework for increasing business linkages, the Investment Promotion Agency of Cape Verde will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Singapore Business Federation; a business cum networking seminar will be held to raise awareness of opportunities in the island state off the west coast of Africa. On the morning of 21 September, Prime Minister Neves will visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where an orchid will be named in his honour. Prime Minister Neves will attend the 2012 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix on 23 September as a guest of Prime Minister Lee.

Prime Minister Neves will be accompanied by Minister for Infrastructure and Maritime Economy Ms Sara Maria Duarte Lopes, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, José Luis Rocha Fialho, and other senior officials.
