MFA Press Statement: State Visit to Singapore by the President of the United Mexican States, His Excellency Felipe Calderon Hinojosa, 9 to 11 September 2012

The President of the United Mexican States, His Excellency Felipe Calderon Hinojosa, will make a State Visit to Singapore from 9 to 11 September 2012, at the invitation of President Tony Tan Keng Yam.

President Calderon will be accompanied by Mrs Margarita Zavala. In addition, his delegation will include Secretary of External Relations Her Excellency Patricia Espinosa Cantellano; Secretary of Energy His Excellency Jordy Herrera Flores; Secretary of Economy His Excellency Bruno Ferrari Garcia de Alba; and Secretary of Communications and Transport His Excellency Dionisio Perez-Jacome Friscione, as well as other senior officials.

President Calderon will be officially welcomed by President Tan at a ceremony at the Istana on 10 September 2012. Following the welcome ceremony, President Calderon will call on President Tan, and meet with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. President Tan and Mrs Mary Tan will host a State Banquet in honour of President Calderon and Mrs Zavala that evening.

During his stay in Singapore, President Calderon and Mrs Zavala will also visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where an orchid, the Genus Calderon Zavala, will be named in President Calderon and Mrs Zavala's honour. President Calderon will attend a business roundtable luncheon held in his honour, where Minister, Prime Minister's Office, Second Minister for Home Affairs and Second Minister for Trade & Industry S Iswaran and several high-level business representatives with interest in Mexico and Latin America will participate. In addition, President Calderon will visit Sembcorp and PSA.

On 11 September 2012, President Calderon will deliver the Fullerton Lecture on "A Mexican Perspective on the Global Economy" organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies. He will depart Singapore later that day.
