MFA Press Statement: Visit Of Senior Parliamentary Secretary For Foreign Affairs And Community Development, Youth And Sports Mr Sam Tan To The Slovak Republic And The Czech Republic, 23-27 September 2012

Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Community Development, Youth and Sports Mr Sam Tan visited the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic from 23 to 27 September 2012 to attend the Spotlight Singapore: Young Entrepreneurs Series (SSYES).  Mr Tan was the Singapore Guest of Honour, and delivered welcoming remarks at the opening ceremonies of the SSYES in Bratslava, the Slovak Republic, on 24 September and in Prague, the Czech Republic, on 27 September.

          In conjunction with his visit, Mr Tan also met with leaders and officials from the two countries.  In Bratislava, Mr Tan called on State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mr Peter Burian.  They reaffirmed the excellent bilateral relations between Singapore and the Slovak Republic and exchanged views on regional developments.  In addition, Mr Tan met with Chairman of the National Council's Foreign Affairs Committee Mr František Šebej, Chairman of the National Council's Committee on Economic Affairs Mr Ján Hudacký and other Slovak Members of Parliament, where they affirmed the importance of parliamentary exchanges in enhancing bilateral relations and looked forward to the conclusion of the negotiations for the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement.

          In Prague, Mr Tan met with Minister for Regional Development Mr Kamil Jankovský and other senior government officials to exchange views on bilateral cooperation, including in the areas of political exchanges, trade and investment, and tourism and people-to-people ties.  Mr Tan was also received by Vice-President of the Senate Ms Alena Gajdůšková.  The two leaders discussed the potential for closer cooperation between Singapore and the Czech Republic, including in the field of educational exchanges.
