The Chairman of Indonesia's People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) H.E. Taufiq Kiemas is visiting Singapore from 7 to 10 October 2012 at the invitation of Speaker of Parliament Mr Michael Palmer. H.E. Taufiq is accompanied by the MPR Vice Chairmen and Faction Heads.

H.E. Taufik and his delegation called on and were hosted to lunch by Mr Palmer. Mr Palmer was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Mr Charles Chong and Members of Parliament Mr Desmond Lee and Mr Gan Thiam Poh. Both sides welcomed expanding bilateral ties, including enhanced trade and investment links between Singapore and Indonesia’s provinces. They also welcomed better air connectivity and greater education, cultural and tourism exchanges. The two delegations agreed to step up Parliamentary exchanges.

H.E. Taufiq and his delegation also paid a courtesy call on Acting Prime Minister Mr Teo Chee Hean this morning. Acting Prime Minister Teo and H.E. Taufiq reaffirmed the good relations between Indonesia and Singapore and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Tomorrow, H.E. Taufiq and his delegation will call on President Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam and be hosted to lunch by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law Mr K Shanmugam.
