Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam met with and was hosted to lunch by Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa in Yogyakarta, Indonesia today. Both Ministers reaffirmed the excellent ties between Singapore and Indonesia. They discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation through the working groups established by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Leaders’ Retreat in 2010. They also exchanged views on ASEAN and regional issues. In addition, Foreign Minister Marty hosted Minister Shanmugam to a tour of the Borobudur Temple and hosted dinner thereafter.
Minister Shanmugam also met with the Vice-Governor of Yogyakarta Paku Alam IX this afternoon. They discussed developments in Yogyakarta and exchanged ideas to strengthen economic cooperation between Singapore and Yogyakarta.
Minister Shanmugam will travel to Jakarta on 25 October 2012 where he will pay a courtesy call on President Yudhoyono.
