MFA Press Statement: Visit of Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Community Development, Youth and Sports Mr Sam Tan to the Republic of Slovenia, 23-24 October 2012

During his visit to Slovenia from 23-24 October 2012, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Community Development, Youth and Sports Mr Sam Tan met with State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dr Božo Cerar. Mr Tan and Dr Cerar noted that 2012 was the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Slovenia, and reaffirmed the friendly bilateral relations between the two countries, including the close cooperation at international forums such as the Forum of Small States, the Global Governance Group and the Green Group. They also exchanged views on the developments in Asia and Europe.

Mr Tan also met with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology Mr Uroš Rožič, where they exchanged ideas for closer economic cooperation, including through the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (EUSFTA).

In addition, Mr Tan called on Deputy Speaker of the Slovenian National Assembly Ms Romana Tomc and met with representatives of the National Assembly's Committee on Foreign Policy and Committee on the Economy. At the meetings, Mr Tan encouraged greater inter-parliamentary exchanges between Singapore and Slovenia, and exchanged views with the Slovenian members of parliament on ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

Finally, Mr Tan was received by Mayor of Ljubljana Mr Zoran Janković at the Ljubljana City Hall, where he signed the Book of the City. Mr Tan was also hosted to lunch by the City Councillor Ms Nives Cesar.
