MFA Press Statement: State Visit of President Tony Tan Keng Yam to Indonesia, 27 November – 1 December 2012

President Tony Tan Keng Yam, who is in Indonesia on a State Visit, called on Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono this afternoon after being given a ceremonial welcome at the Istana Merdeka in Jakarta. During the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed the excellent and longstanding relations between Singapore and Indonesia. They discussed ways to strengthen Singapore-Indonesia ties, including expanding cooperation in the fields of education, culture and sports. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments.

President Tan also met with Indonesian Vice President Boediono. They exchanged views on economic developments in Indonesia and on the global economy. In addition, they discussed bilateral cooperation in human resource development and education.

This morning, President Tan laid a wreath at the Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery, as is customary for State Visits to Indonesia.

President Tan will be hosted to a State Banquet by President Yudhoyono this evening. Tomorrow, President Tan will visit a Singapore International Foundation palliative care project and attend a reception with Indonesian alumni of Singapore institutes of higher learning, as well as Singapore exchange and training programmes.
