MFA Press Statement: State Visit to Singapore by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, 20 to 21 November 2012

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Ilham Aliyev,who is on a State Visit in Singapore from 20 to 21 November 2012, was officially welcomed by President Tony Tan Keng Yam at the Istana this morning.  After the ceremony, President Aliyev called on President Tony Tan and met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.  Following the meetings, President hosted a State Lunch in honour of President Aliyev.

During the meetings, the leaders affirmed the friendly relations between Singapore and Azerbaijan, and noted the growing economic ties between both countries.  The leaders also discussed ways in which cooperation could be further strengthened, through areas such as investments, human resource development and the promotion of people-to-people ties.

Earlier today, President Aliyev attended a ceremony at the National Orchid Garden where a new orchid hybrid, the Ascocenda Ilham Aliyev, was named in his honour.  President Aliyev and his delegation will depart Singapore on 21 November 2012.
