On 27 November 2012, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Core Group, led by CII President and Chairman of the Godrej Group Mr Adi Godrej, called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and Second Minister for Trade and Industry S Iswaran separately. The Core Group was also hosted to breakfast by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam.
The Core Group exchanged views with PM and the Singapore Ministers on the global and regional economic outlook. The Core Group also provided an update on recent economic policy reforms in India and offered insights on the potential business implications. In addition, the Core Group expressed CII’s interest in working with Singapore companies to explore new investment areas in India.
The CII Core Group has made annual visits to Singapore since 1993. The annual visit is aimed at deepening mutual understanding of developments in India and Southeast Asia, as well as enhancing bilateral economic cooperation. This year, the Core Group’s visit is taking place in conjunction with the flag-off ceremony to launch the ASEAN-India Car Rally, one of the key highlights of the ASEAN-India Commemorative Year, on 28 November 2012.
