Joint Press Statement: Visit of Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu to Japan for the Fukushima Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Safety (14-16 Dec)

Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu will visit Fukushima Prefecture, Japan from 14 to 16 December 2012 to attend the Fukushima Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Safety. 

                  

 

The Conference, which will be hosted by the Government of Japan in co-sponsorship with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is part of a global effort to strengthen nuclear safety and will offer an opportunity to share further knowledge and lessons learned from the accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant in March 2011; to further enhance transparency; and to discuss the progress of international efforts aimed at strengthening nuclear safety.  It will be attended by IAEA Member States, international organisations and other stakeholders.

 

 

In Fukushima, Minister Fu will attend a working lunch hosted by Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba for Ministers and Heads of Delegation attending the Conference, and have bilateral meetings with her counterparts on the sidelines of the Conference. 

 

 

Minister Fu will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Environment Agency, the National Security Coordination Secretariat and the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
