MFA Press Statement: Study Visit of Myanmar Ministerial Delegation, 3 to 7 December 2012

A Ministerial delegation from Myanmar, led by Union Minister in the President's Office and Chairman of the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) U Soe Thane, will be in Singapore on 3 December 2012 for a five-day study visit. The delegation, comprising the Deputy Ministers for National Planning and Economic Development, Industry, and Construction, will focus on Singapore’s industrial policies, our experience in industrial park development, as well as technical and vocational education and training.

The visit, jointly organised by the Singapore Cooperation Programme (SCP) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), is part of our technical assistance to Myanmar under the Singapore-Myanmar Technical Cooperation Programme (SMTCP) which was signed during the State Visit of Myanmar President U Thein Sein to Singapore in January 2012. The sharing of Singapore’s expertise and experience in relevant developmental areas is part of our broader commitment to support Myanmar's reform and capacity building efforts, and contributes in a concrete way to Myanmar’s development and the strengthening of ties between our two countries. Apart from meetings with the Ministry of Trade & Industry and its related agencies on Singapore's industrial policy and development and management of industrial parks, the delegation will receive briefings by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) on Singapore’s land use planning experience and the Housing and Development Board (HDB) on Singapore's housing policies. The delegation will also make a site visit to an Institute of Technical Education (ITE) campus.

During the visit, Union Minister U Soe Thane and his delegation will call on PM Lee Hsien Loong and be hosted to dinner by Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. They will also meet with Minister (Foreign Affairs) K Shanmugam, Minister (Trade & Industry) Lim Hng Kiang and Minister (National Development) Khaw Boon Wan.
