MFA Press Statement: Visit by Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs Mr Teo Chee Hean to Saudi Arabia, 2 – 4 December 2012

Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean called on His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence in Riyadh on 3 December. Both leaders reaffirmed the warm and friendly relations between Singapore and Saudi Arabia and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. DPM Teo also invited His Royal Highness Prince Salman to visit Singapore.

Separately, DPM Teo met and was hosted to dinner by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of Interior. They exchanged views on regional and international developments, and agreed to initiate regular exchanges to strengthen cooperation, including combating terrorism and extremist ideology. DPM Teo and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed also signed a Memorandum of Intent between the Ministry of Home Affairs of Singapore and the Ministry of Interior of Saudi Arabia to cooperate on areas including combating transnational crime and terrorism.

DPM Teo also met His Royal Highness Prince Miteb bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Commander of the Saudi Arabian National Guard, to convey the well wishes of President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for the speedy recovery of His Majesty King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, following his recent surgery. DPM Teo also visited the Prince Mohammed bin Naif Center for Counselling and Care, the King Fahad Security College and the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences.

On 4 December, DPM Teo met members of the Singaporean community in Riyadh and was hosted to lunch by His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Chairman of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies.
