MFA Spokesman's Comments in response to media queries on DPRK's announcement of impending rocket launch (7 Dec 2012)

In response to media queries on the DPRK's announcement of an impending rocket launch scheduled to take place between 10 to 22 December, the MFA Spokesman said:

"We have been following reports that the DPRK may be preparing to carry out a rocket launch with great concern.  Irrespective of the declared purpose of the launch, it would clearly be a violation of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on the DPRK, which prohibit any launch using ballistic missile technology.

We have witnessed improvements in economic and social conditions in the DPRK in recent months. But any violation of UNSC resolutions is bound to raise tensions and elicit an international response. It would be a great pity if the DPRK by its own actions should derail the current trajectory of developments."
