His Excellency Barack Obama
President of the United States of America
Your Excellency,
On behalf of the people of Singapore, I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations on your second inauguration as 44th President of the United States of America.
Your first term saw the United States avert a financial and economic catastrophe, and improved the lives of many Americans. The global economic outlook remains subdued and many countries will continue to look to the United States for leadership. I am confident that under your leadership and with the resourcefulness and tenacity of the American spirit, the United States will be able to rise to the occasion.
Singapore and the United States enjoy excellent and multifaceted relations which are underpinned by the US-Singapore Free Trade Agreement and the Strategic Framework Agreement. Over the last four years, our cooperation has broadened to include education and providing technical assistance to developing countries, particularly within ASEAN. I look forward to further enhancing the bilateral relationship.
I wish you every success during your second term in office.
Yours sincerely
TONY TAN KENG YAM
