MFA Press Statement: Visit of Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam to the Republic of Turkey, 3 to 5 January 2013

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam, who is on an official visit to Turkey, held bilateral talks with his Turkish counterpart Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof Ahmet Davutoğlu.  Minister Davutoğlu welcomed the opening of Singapore's Embassy in Ankara.  The two Ministers reaffirmed the excellent state of relations between Singapore and Turkey, and discussed ways to further broaden and deepen bilateral cooperation.  In particular, they looked forward to enhancing trade and investment flows between the two countries.  Minister Shanmugam welcomed Turkey's interest to step up its engagement of ASEAN.  The two Ministers looked forward to more high-level exchanges between the two countries.

Minister Shanmugam also delivered a keynote address on the "The Developments in Asia and its implications" at the Fifth Turkish Ambassadors' Conference organised by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  Earlier in the morning, Minister Shanmugam paid his respects to the founder of modern Turkey by laying a wreath at the Atatürk Mausoleum.

Minister Shanmugam will depart Ankara for Singapore this evening.
