MFA Press Statement: Visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam to Phnom Penh as Singapore’s Representative at the Royal Cremation Ceremony of the Late King-Father of the Kingdom of Cambodia His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam attended the Royal Cremation Ceremony of the late King-Father of the Kingdom of Cambodia, His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk, as Singapore’s Chief Representative this afternoon.

In paying respects to the late King-Father during the Ceremony, DPM Tharman laid a dried sandalwood flower at the funeral pyre, along with leaders and high-level representatives from the ASEAN countries, as well as Australia, Canada, China, France, India, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

This morning, DPM Tharman met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hor Namhong. Both sides reaffirmed the warm and longstanding relations between Singapore and Cambodia, and discussed ways to further enhance bilateral and regional ties.

DPM Tharman also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Keat Chhon. They exchanged views on regional economic developments, and also discussed ways to expand bilateral and regional financial cooperation, in support of ongoing efforts to establish an ASEAN Economic Community by 2015.
