MFA Press Statement: State Visit of President Tony Tan Keng Yam to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, 1 to 5 April 2013

President Tony Tan Keng Yam will make a State Visit to Myanmar from 1 to 5 April 2013 at the invitation of Myanmar President U Thein Sein. President Tan will visit Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay and Yangon.

President Tan will receive a ceremonial welcome in Nay Pyi Taw. He will call on and be hosted to a State Banquet by President U Thein Sein. President Tan will also have meetings with the Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Thura U Shwe Mann and Chairperson of the National League for Democracy Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. In Mandalay and Yangon, President Tan will meet with and be hosted to dinner by the respective Region Chief Ministers, U Ye Myint and U Myint Swe.

President Tan will view a paediatric emergency care training programme in Mandalay which is funded by Temasek Foundation and conducted by the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. In Yangon, President Tan will officiate the opening of the International Enterprise (IE) Singapore office, and meet with Singaporean businessmen and officials from the Myanmar economic agencies. He will also meet with overseas Singaporeans based in Myanmar over a dinner reception.

President Tan will be accompanied by Mrs Tan; Minister for National Development Mr Khaw Boon Wan and Mrs Khaw; Minister of State for Trade and Industry Mr Teo Ser Luck; Members of Parliament Ms Irene Ng and Ms Tin Pei Ling; and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and the Housing Development Board.
