MFA Press Statement: Fifth Bali Regional Ministerial Conference on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related Transnational Crime, Bali, Indonesia, 1 to 2 April 2013

Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Culture, Community and Youth Mr Sam Tan attended the Fifth Bali Regional Ministerial Conference on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and related Transnational Crime that was held in Bali, Indonesia from 1 to 2 April 2013.  He was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

 

During the Conference, Mr Tan delivered a statement expressing Singapore’s support for the Bali Process as a voluntary, non-binding, member-driven process that is oriented towards operational cooperation.  The activities of the Bali Process complementSingapore’s domestic measures to deter and detect trafficking in persons and the movement of illegal immigrants.  Singapore hosted the Bali Process Workshop on Document Examination Education in Immigration in October 2012 which focused on capacity building and information sharing between enforcement agencies.
