Letter to PRC Premier Li Keqiang

21 April 2013

Dear [Premier Li]

I am saddened to learn of the earthquake that struck Sichuan on 20 April 2013.  On behalf of the people and Government of Singapore, I offer my deepest condolences to the Government and people of China.

I visited Sichuan just last September, and was deeply moved to learn first hand of the hardships that the people in Yingxiu experienced during the 2008 earthquake, and inspired by their fortitude in rebuilding their lives.  It is unfortunate that another major earthquake has struck Sichuan again.  Singapore stands ready to assist those affected by this tragedy.

I am confident that the people of Sichuan will overcome this tragedy with resilience and determination.  Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.

[Yours sincerely,]

LEE HSIEN LOONG

His Excellency Li Keqiang

Premier of the State Council

People’s Republic of China
