MFA Press Statement: Visit by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam to the Federative Republic of Brazil, 3 to 5 April 2013

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam will make an official visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil from 3 to 5 April 2013.  This will be Minister Shanmugam's first official visit to Brazil and to Latin America.  He will visit Sao Paulo, Brazil's economic centre, after which he will proceed to Brasilia, Brazil's capital city.  

 

Minister Shanmugam will deliver a speech on "Latin America and Asia: Challenges and Unexplored Opportunities" to young business leaders, private sector personalities, media representatives, and key industry players, at the Fundacao Getulio Vargas (FGV) in Sao Paulo, Brazil's premier business school. 

 

In Brasilia, Minister Shanmugam will meet with his Brazilian counterpart Minister of External Relations Antonio Patriota, as well as Minister of Development, Industry and Trade Fernando Pimentel, and President of the Federal Supreme Court Joaquim Barbosa.  Minister Shanmugam and Minister Patriota will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Singapore and Brazilian Ministries of Foreign Affairs to strengthen bilateral cooperation and dialogue.  In addition, Minister Shanmugam will officially open Singapore's Embassy in Brasilia, which is Singapore's first Embassy in Latin America. 

 

Minister Shanmugam will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
