MFA Press Statement: Visit of Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Culture, Community and Youth Mr Sam Tan to Japan, 1 to 3 May 2013

Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Culture, Community and Youth and Mayor of the Central Singapore District Mr Sam Tan will visit Shichigahama Town, Miyagi Prefecture in Japan from 1 to 3 May 2013.

During his visit, Mr Tan will be the Guest-of-Honour at the opening ceremony of the Shichigahama Toyama Nursery School located in Shichigahama Town, Miyagi Prefecture.  The S$5 million construction of the nursery school is funded by donations collected by the Singapore Red Cross after the March 11th Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami in 2011.  Mr Tan will also officiate at the opening ceremony of the Shichigahama Kokusaimura International Days event, an annual local festival.  This year, in conjunction with the completion of the Shichigahama Toyama Nursery School, Singapore will be featured at the festival.  The Shichigahama Kokusaimura International Days event will showcase the food, history and culture of Singapore.  

Mr Tan will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives from the Singapore Red Cross.
