MFA Press Statement: Visit to Singapore by the Turkey-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship Group, 17 to 22 April 2013

The Turkey-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship Group is visiting Singapore from 17 to 22 April 2013 at the invitation of the Parliament of Singapore.  This visit takes place against the backdrop of growing Singapore-Turkey relations.  The delegation is led by Mr Suat Önal, Chairman of the Turkey-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship Group and parliamentarian representing Osmaniye.  He is accompanied by fellow parliamentarians Mr Mehmet Erdoğan representing Adıyaman and Mr Faik Tunay representing Istanbul.   

 

The parliamentarians called on Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam on 19 April 2013.  During the meeting, they reaffirmed the warm relations between Singapore and Turkey, and agreed to explore ways to enhance bilateral cooperation. 

 

The parliamentarians visited the Singapore Parliament on 18 April, where they called on Speaker Halimah Yacob.  They also met with and were hosted to lunch by parliamentarians from the Singapore-Europe Parliamentary Regional Group, and attended a Meet-the-People's Session at Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency.  The delegation was briefed by the Singapore Economic Development Board in the morning of 18 April 2013, and will also visit the National University of Singapore and the Singapore Business Federation.
