The Prime Minister and Minister of Defence and Security of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, His Excellency Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, called on President Tony Tan Keng Yam this afternoon, on the second day of his official visit to Singapore.
During their meeting, President Tan and Prime Minister Gusmão noted that relations between Singapore and Timor-Leste were warm and long-standing. They agreed to explore ways to encourage greater business collaboration. President Tan underscored Singapore’s support for Timor-Leste’s development and reiterated Singapore’s commitment to enhance technical assistance to help build up Timor-Leste’s human resource capabilities. President Tan also thanked Prime Minister Gusmão for Timor-Leste’s support for Singapore’s candidatures for Part II of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Category "C" of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Councils, at elections to be held in September 2013 and November 2013 respectively.
In addition, Prime Minister Gusmão delivered public lectures today, at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. He will visit Jurong Island tomorrow before concluding his official visit.
