MFA Press Statement: Visit by Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli to Qatar, 9 to 13 June 2013

Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli, who is on an introductory visit to Qatar from 9 to 13 June 2013, called on Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Attiyah in Doha today. SMS Masagos and Minister of State Dr Khalid reaffirmed the warm ties between Singapore and Qatar. They also agreed to enhance the existing bilateral partnerships and explore additional new areas of cooperation that could be discussed at the 6th Qatar-Singapore High Level Joint Committee Meeting, which is scheduled to be held in Singapore in November 2013.

Earlier today, SMS Masagos called on Minister of State for Interior, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Thani. During the meeting, they welcomed the regular security exchanges between both countries, particularly in the field of civil defence training and traffic management. SMS Masagos and Minister of State Sheikh Abdullah also agreed that the two Ministries should continue such exchanges and look for new areas of possible cooperation.

SMS Masagos was also hosted to lunch yesterday by Executive Chairman of the Qatar National Food Security Programme, His Excellency Fahad Bin Mohammed Al Attiyah. During the lunch, SMS Masagos and Executive Chairman Al Attiyah exchanged views on Qatar and Singapore’s experiences relating to food and water security and how both countries could cooperate on these issues.

SMS Masagos will also meet Singaporeans living and working in Qatar at an event organised by Red Dotters Qatar tomorrow evening, before returning to Singapore on 13 June 2013.
