MFA Press Statement: Visit to Singapore by Minister of Education & Higher Education of the Palestinian National Authority Lamis Alami, 3 - 7 June 2013

Minister of Education and Higher Education of the Palestinian National Authority Her Excellency Lamis Alami was hosted to lunch by Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli on 3 June 2013.  Minister Alami is leading a delegation of Palestinian education officials on a study visit to Singapore from 3 to 7 June 2013.  This is a follow-up to Singapore’s offer of an enhanced technical assistance package worth S$5 million over five years to help in Palestinian capacity-building, which was announced at the CEAPAD (Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development) meeting in Tokyo in February 2013.   

During the lunch, Minister Alami expressed admiration for Singapore’s achievements in the area of education which the Palestinian delegation were keen to learn from.  Both leaders reaffirmed the warm and friendly ties between Singapore and the Palestinian National Authority.  SMS Masagos welcomed more Palestinian officials to participate in courses under the Singapore Cooperation Programme. 

During her visit, Minister Alami will call on Minister for Education Heng Swee Keat.  The Palestinian delegation will also be briefed on Singapore's education system and policies, as well as visit ITE College East, Republic Polytechnic and the National Institute of Education.
