Joint Press Statement for the Third Japan-Singapore Maritime Security Dialogue, 23 July 2013

The Third Japan-Singapore Maritime Security Dialogue was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on 23 July 2013.

 

From the Japanese side, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headed by Ambassador Kazuyuki Yamazaki, Deputy Director-General, Foreign Policy Bureau; the Ministry of Defence; the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism; and the Secretariat of the Headquarters for Ocean Policy attended this dialogue. From the Singaporean side, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headed by Senior Specialist Adviser Ambassador Mary Seet-Cheng and other officials from the relevant agencies participated.

 

The Dialogue covered a wide range of issues. Both countries discussed the safety of navigation in vital shipping lanes such as the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, counter-piracy measures, the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP), maritime security efforts in ASEAN and others.
