MFA Press Statement: 46th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting, Post Ministerial Conferences, 20th ASEAN Regional Forum, 3rd East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers Meeting, 2 July 2013

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam, accompanied by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu, attended the 20th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and the 3rd East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers Meeting in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam on 2 July 2013.

The ARF Ministers witnessed the launch of the 20th ARF Commemorative Publication, reaffirmed the central role of ASEAN in the regional architecture and emphasised the importance of implementing the ARF Preventive Diplomacy Work Plan. The EAS Foreign Ministers discussed ways to improve regional cooperation in the six priority areas and reaffirmed the importance of the EAS as a platform for constructive dialogue and cooperation. At the ARF and EAS meetings, the Ministers also conducted in-depth discussions on international and regional issues, including developments in the East China Sea, the Korean Peninsula and the South China Sea.

Minister Shanmugam and Minister Fu return to Singapore today.
