MFA Spokesman's comments in response to media queries on the situation in Egypt

In response to media queries on the situation in Egypt, the MFA Spokesman said:

Large scale demonstrations have occurred across Egypt, including a number of violent clashes that have resulted in death and injuries. In view of the situation, Singaporeans should consider deferring non-essential travel to Egypt, in particular, Cairo, Alexandria and Suez.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our Embassy in Cairo will continue to monitor the situation in Egypt closely and would like to advise Singaporeans who are currently in Egypt to take the necessary precautions for their personal safety. If they have not already done so, they should eRegister immediately at http://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/. Our Embassy in Cairo has initiated contact with Singaporeans who have e-registered with MFA. Singaporeans are also reminded to be alert, monitor the news closely, observe instructions from local security authorities and avoid areas of public gatherings and disturbances.
