MFA Press Statement: Appointment of Singapore's Non-Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Chile

                  

                   The Government has appointed Mr Chua Thai Keong as Singapore’s next Ambassador to the Republic of Chile.  He will be resident in Singapore.

 

                   Mr Chua joined the Foreign Service in 1986 and served as Ambassador to the Republic of Korea and concurrently Ambassador to Mongolia from 2006 to 2010.  Before that he was the Director of a political Directorate covering Northeast Asia and Oceania from 2002 to 2006.  He was also the Minister-Counsellor in Tokyo from 1998 to 2002. 

 

                    Mr Chua is currently on secondment to Shell Eastern Petroleum Pte Ltd as Special Adviser/Asia Pacific in Shell’s Government Relations unit.

 

                   Mr Chua is married to Mdm Xia Bing and they have three children.

  BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

 

               Mr Chua Thai Keong is currently on secondment to Shell Eastern Petroleum Pte Ltd as Special Adviser Asia Pacific in Shell’s Government Relations unit.

 

                Mr Chua joined the Singapore Foreign Service in 1986 and was assigned to the Directorate covering Southeast Asia.  He served as First Secretary/Deputy Chief of Mission in Bangkok from 1992 to 1996 and Minister-Counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission in Tokyo from 1998 to 2002. He was Deputy Director in the Policy, Planning & Analysis Directorate 3 (PPA Directorate 3) covering Northeast Asia and Oceania from 1996 to 1998.  In addition, he was Special Assistant to the Minister in 1997.  Mr Chua was appointed Director of PPA Directorate 3 from 2002.  He was Ambassador to the Republic of Korea with concurrent accreditation as Ambassador to Mongolia from 2006 to 2010. 

 

               Mr Chua graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the National University of Singapore in 1985.  He received the Master of International Affairs from Columbia University, New York, in 1992.  He completed the Bachelor of Economics (Hons) with the University of London in 1998.

 

               Mr Chua is married to Mdm Xia Bing and they have three children.
