MFA Press Statement: Visit of His Excellency Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of State, United Arab Emirates Under the S R Nathan Fellowship

25 August 2013

His Excellency Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of State, and Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will visit Singapore at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam as the inaugural S R Nathan Fellow from 26 - 27 August 2013.

The S R Nathan Fellowship, which was launched by Minister Shanmugam and former President S R Nathan at the Commemorative Event for the 20th Anniversary of the Singapore Cooperation Programme last November, is a new high-level programme to invite foreign leaders and opinion-shapers to Singapore to exchange ideas, experiences and perspectives on current and long-term challenges with Singapore leaders and senior government officials.  This will promote mutual understanding and cooperation between our countries. The Fellowship is named after former President Nathan to honour his significant contributions to Singapore's foreign policy during his long tenure with MFA and during his two-term presidency.

During his visit, Dr Al Jaber will meet Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, Minister Shanmugam, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Vivian Balakrishnan and Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli.  He will also receive briefings by the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore, SPRING and the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore.
