MFA Spokesman's Comments in response to media queries regarding the violence in Egypt

In response to media queries regarding the violence in Egypt, the MFA Spokesman said:

"Singapore is deeply concerned by the security situation in Egypt which has resulted in a significant number of fatalities and injuries.  We call on all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from further violence.  It is even more critical now for the parties to work together to find a peaceful solution for the sake of all Egyptians.

In view of the state of emergency and curfew announced by the Egyptian Government, Singaporeans who are currently in Egypt have been advised to abide by the curfew hours (7 pm to 6 am Egypt time), to be on high alert and to take the necessary precautions for their personal safety, including monitoring the news closely, observing instructions from local authorities and avoiding areas of public disturbances.  Our Embassy in Cairo will work with the Egyptian authorities to ensure the safety of Singaporeans.

Our Embassy in Cairo will remain in close contact with Singaporeans, in particular our students who are in Egypt.  Singaporeans who have not already e-registered with MFA, should do so immediately at http://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/."
