Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong met Communist Party of China Politburo Member and Tianjin Party Secretary Sun Chunlan in Tianjin this morning. ESM is visiting Tianjin to commemorate the 5th Anniversary of the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city (TEC).
ESM and Party Secretary Sun reaffirmed the close ties and good cooperation between Singapore and Tianjin, in particular through the TEC. They affirmed that the TEC had made good progress since its inception, and expressed confidence that the TEC can become a model for sustainable development, green growth and harmonious living, which can be replicated in other cities in China as directed by President Xi Jinping when he visited the TEC in May 2013.
ESM and Party Secretary Sun also reviewed the opportunities and challenges of the TEC going forward. They agreed that continued high-level support from both sides is important to ensure the TEC’s progress and success, which would in turn contribute to the development and progress of Tianjin and other parts of China.
ESM invited Party Secretary Sun to visit Singapore at the earliest opportunity. Tianjin Mayor Huang Xingguo hosted ESM and his delegation to lunch after the meeting.
