[Photo: MFA]Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli is in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam to attend the Majlis Ilmu or Knowledge Convention 2013 at the invitation of the State Mufti of Brunei Darussalam Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned. Since 2004, the Knowledge Convention has been held annually in commemoration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah’s birthday celebrations. The theme for the Convention this year is “Syariah Law Promises Justice and Well-Being for all”.
SMS Masagos also had a bilateral meeting with the State Mufti Pehin Abdul Aziz. Pehin Abdul Aziz took the opportunity to explain how Brunei will implement the new Syariah Criminal Justice System while retaining the existing Penal Code. SMS Masagos and Pehin Abdul Aziz also reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen bilateral ties. SMS Masagos will be returning to Singapore later this evening.
