MFA Press Statement: Visit to Singapore by Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States His Excellency Jose Antonio Meade Kuribrena, 4 to 5 October 2013

The Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States, His Excellency Jose Antonio Meade Kuribrena is visiting Singapore from 4 to 5 October 2013.  Secretary Meade is accompanied by Secretary of Tourism Claudia Ruiz-Massieu Salinas and senior government officials.


Secretary Meade was hosted to lunch by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam.  Secretary Meade also met with Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam.  Both sides welcomed the deepening and broadening of bilateral relations in the economic, cultural and political spheres, and exchanged views on regional and international developments. 

Minister Shanmugam and Secretary Meade also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cultural and Artistic Cooperation between the National Council for Culture and the Arts of Mexico (CONACULTA) and the National Arts Council of Singapore (NAC) and a MOU between the Singapore Diplomatic Academy and the Institute Matias Romero of Mexico.  At the same signing ceremony, a MOU on Tourism Cooperation between the Secretariat of Tourism of Mexico and the Singapore Tourism Board was signed by Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry Lee Yi Shyan and Secretary of Tourism Ruiz-Massieu.  The two Foreign Ministers also witnessed the signing of a MOU between Keppel Offshore & Marine and PEMEX subsidiaries PMI and PEP to jointly develop a yard facility in Mexico.  The agreements will promote bilateral tourism flows, greater exchanges in the art and culture fields and facilitate training programmes between the Diplomatic Academies of the Singapore and Mexico Foreign Ministries.


Secretary Meade will depart Singapore tomorrow.
