Joint Press Statement: Official Visit by Zhao Leji, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, 24 November 2013

Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee (CC), Member of the Secretariat of the CPC CC and Minister of the Organisation Department of the CPC CC, Mr Zhao Leji will visit Singapore from 25 to 27 November 2013 at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean.

On 26 November, Minister Zhao will co-chair the 4th Singapore-China Forum on Leadership with DPM Teo, who is also Coordinating Minister for National Security, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister-in-charge of the Civil Service. Minister Zhao and DPM Teo will deliver the opening addresses at the Forum themed “Fostering Integrity in Government” (干部队伍“德”的建设”).

Minister Zhao will also call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and be hosted to dinner by Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Defence, Mr Chan Chun Sing.

Singapore-China Forum

First hosted by China in 2009, the Forum is a strategic platform forpolitical leaders and senior officials of Singapore and China to meet for dialogue and engagement on common challenges related to leadership development. The Forum further strengthens the bilateral relationship between both countries by deepening mutual trust and understanding. Both countries alternate the hosting of the Forum.

Leading the 24-member delegation from China is Minister Zhao. Other delegates include Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Governance Chen Baosheng, Ambassador to Singapore, HE Duan Jielong, CPC Central Organisation Department (COD) Vice Minister, Mr Wang Jingqing and senior Chinese government officials.

Apart from DPM Teo and Minister Chan, the Singapore delegation includes Ambassador to China, Mr Stanley Loh; Senior Minister of State (Finance and Transport), Mrs Josephine Teo; Minister of State (National Development &
Defence), Dr Mohamad Maliki bin Osman; Minister of State (National Development), Mr Desmond Lee and Parliamentary Secretary (Social & Family Development), Ms Low Yen Ling.

Representing the Singapore Public Service are five Permanent Secretaries including Head of Civil Service, Mr Peter Ong, who is also Permanent Secretary (Finance); Permanent Secretary, Public Service Division (Prime Minister’s Office), Ms Yong Ying-I; Deputy Secretaries and senior officials from Ministries and statutory boards.
