Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam attended the State Memorial Service at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, which was held in honour of the late Nelson Mandela. In response to media queries, DPM Tharman said, "The ceremony was meaningful and the mood uplifting despite the continuous rain over several hours. It was befitting of Nelson Mandela, whose remarkable life has touched so many people from all over the world."
On 11 December 2013, DPM Tharman will pay his last respects at the Union Building in Pretoria, where Mandela’s body will Lie-in-State. He returns to Singapore tomorrow.
