MFA Press Statement : 17th Singapore - Kagoshima Conference, 22 January 2014

Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Culture, Community and Youth Mr Sam Tan led the Singapore delegation to the 17th Singapore-Kagoshima Conference (SKC) held in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan on 22 January 2014.  The Japanese delegation was led by Governor of Kagoshima Prefecture His Excellency Yuichiro Ito.

During the Conference, SPS Tan and Governor Ito reaffirmed the warm and longstanding relationship that Singapore and Kagoshima shared over the years.  The participants had a fruitful discussion on ways to promote economic exchanges and to further enhance people-to-people ties between Singapore and Kagoshima.  Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in a wide range of areas including trade, tourism, youth and cultural exchanges.

In appreciation of the friendship between Singapore and Kagoshima, SPS presented Governor Ito with a self-penned calligraphy piece.  SPS Tan and Governor Ito also looked forward to the further deepening of the Singapore-Kagoshima partnership.

Established in 1982, the SKC aims to promote cooperation between Singapore and Kagoshima Prefecture.  It is the longest-running forum of its kind that Singapore has with a Japanese prefecture.
