MFA Press Statement: Conferment of the Russian Federation's Order of Honour on Former Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew, 6 January 2014

        Former Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew was conferred the Order of Honour by President of the Russian Federation Mr Vladimir Putin on 10 September 2013 "for his substantial contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation with the Russian Federation and development of scientific and cultural relations" and in conjunction with Mr Lee's 90th birthday. 

 

        The Order of Honour was presented by His Excellency Mr Leonid Moiseev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Singapore to Mr Lee today at the Istana.  A write-up on the award is attached.

 

        Singapore and Russia enjoy excellent relations underpinned by regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and through institutional linkages such as the Russia-Singapore Inter-Governmental Commission (IGC) and the Russia-Singapore Business Forum (RSBF).  

 

        Singapore will continue to forge closer cooperation with Russia for the mutual benefit of our countries and peoples.

Order of Honor

 

The Order of Honor is a state order of the Russian Federation which was established by the President’s decree №442 of March 2, 1994. The Russian Federation Order Honor provides continuity from the Soviet Union's identically named Order.

 

Statute

The Order of Honor is awarded to the Russian citizens for the high achievements in the state, production, scientific research, sociocultural, public and charitable activities, which made it possible to essentially improve the conditions of life of people, for the merits in training of the highly skilled personnel, training the growing up generation, the maintenance of legality and law.

The Order of Honor is awarded to foreigners for special accomplishments in development of bilateral relations with the Russian Federation.

The Order of Honor is to be placed on the left side of the chest, and if other orders of the Russian Federation are present, then it is located after Order “For Naval Merits”.

 

Description

The badge of the Order of Honor is made of silver with enamel. It is the octagonal cross, in center of which – the round locket, covered with white enamel, with the volumetric image of the state coat of arms of the Russian Federation, bordered by laurel garland. Diameter of the sign of order – 42 mm. There is the serial number of order on the reverse side.

The sign of order with the aid of the ear and the ring is connected with the pentagonal boot-tree, stretched over by the silk moire tape of dark-blue color with the white longitudinal strip. The width of the ribbon is 24 mm, the width of the white stripe is 2.5 mm.
